Raymond M Ross

Raymond M. Ross, 85, of W. Fox Rd. Sunbury, PA, passed away on February 10, 2017 at Evangelical Hospital. Ray was born in Rockefeller Township, PA on November 12, 1931 the son of the late Alexander and Verna (DeWitt)  Ross. He married Barbara A. Lauver on August 22, 1959 who passed in 1997.


Ray graduated Sunbury High School in 1950. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 and then in the Army Reserves from 1956 to 1962.  He grew up on a dairy farm and was able to enjoy that passion in his career as supervisor for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) for twenty-nine years (1967-1996).  He was also employed with Pratt-Whitney from 1950-51.  He attended the Ash Grove United Methodist Church.  

 

Ray enjoyed gardening, canning and drying vegetables.  He was a woodworker.   But his favorite pastime was enjoying the valley and neighbors from his porch swing, where he and his buddy and grandson, Justin, spent many precious moments.

Ray is survived by two daughters: Bonita (husband Kris) Kauffman of Sunbury and Denise C. (husband Daniel) Snyder of Sunbury, grandson Justin Kauffman of Sunbury, his only sister in law Nancy Ross, two brothers in law Roger Lauver and wife Kathie and Richard Lauver and wife Phyllis, numerous nieces and nephews and two children from a previous marriage, Suzanne and Jeff.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife and seven brothers: Russell, Walter, Howard, Charles, J. Earl, Harley and Paul and six sisters in law.

Friends and family may call on Tuesday February 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. at the David T. Zweier Funeral Home, Inc. 157 Chestnut St. Sunbury, PA.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday February 15, 2017 at 11 am. with Pastor Barb Welsh officiating.  Interment will follow at the Miller’s Crossroads Cemetery with a military honor guard.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Ash Grove United Methodist Church PO Box 108 Paxinos, PA 17860.
