George J Buchanan

George J. Buchanan, 87, of Sunbury, PA passed away on February 24, 2017. He was born in Dover, NJ on September 24, 1929 the son of the late George J. and Irene (Hoover) Buchanan.

George graduated Scranton Central High School. He married the love of his life, Rose Marie Decker, on February 9, 1947 who passed on March 28, 2016.

George served in the US. Marine Corps. He worked his entire career with the PA Department of State retiring as a State Auditor for the Agriculture Department.

George attained the position of Full Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed friends and family often attending the local fairs with them. He was a member of American Legion Post #201. He loved his pet dog “Mabel.”

George is survived by eight daughters: Catherine A. Buchanan of Sunbury, June Marie Young of Northumberland, Nancy (husband Joe) Baker of Sunbury, Mary (husband Rick) Williard of Sunbury, J. Kelly Buchanan of Sunbury, Therese J. Garvey of Danville, Patricia S. Buchanan of Sunbury, and Elizabeth A. (husband Jeffrey) Lewis of Sunbury, twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and five nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son George J. Buchanan III (1996), one grandchild, and siblings Clair Smith and Renee Demuro.

There is no public visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Saint Monica Church with Rev. Fred Wangwe, A.J. officiating. Interment is at Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington, PA. with a military honor guard.
