Eugene J. Spang

September 20, 1942 ~ August 8, 2016 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Eugene J. Spang, 73, of 254 Peifers Drive in Dornsife, PA passed away on August 8, 2016 at the Harrisburg Hospital.  He was born in Harrisburg, PA on September 20,1942; son of the late Joseph and Jean (Gappa) Spang, of Herndon, PA.

Gene was a 1960 graduate of Mahanoy Joint High School.  He immediately joined the U.S. Navy, repairing ships in Long Beach, CA.  Following his honorary discharge, he led a career of many ventures, using his machinist skills.  He was employed by Brubaker Tools, Modern Business Machines, Holsum Bakery, Branch of Milton, and Wil-Hold Industries.  He also operated his own business cleaning and servicing office machines.   Later he also opened and operated a sporting goods store at his residence.

He was a member of the Herndon Fire Company and the Shikellamy Archery Club.  He enjoyed the outdoors and traveling.  He could be seen walking regularly with his dog, Lucky.  He was an avid hunter for many years and enjoyed having picnics along the Mahanoy Creek  near the cabin that he built himself.  More recently he enjoyed day bus trips to the casinos.  

Gene is survived by his wife, Lucinda "Cindy" A. (Conz) Spang whom he married on May 31, 1997, his step-daughter and her husband, Carolyn and Daniel Schlegel of Trevorton, PA, step-daughter and her husband, Christine E. and Tom Moll of Trumbauersville, PA, his brother
and his wife; Robert and Kathy Spang of Herndon, PA, a sister, Arlene Hoffman of Halifax,PA, four step-grandchildren, four step-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. 

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Ann L. (Williams) Spang, a half-brother, Christian Spang, and two step-sons; Michael W. Lawler and David Bruce Conz.

Friends and family may call on Monday August 15, 2016 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the David T. Zweier Funeral Home, Inc. 157 Chestnut Street, Sunbury, PA.  A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Richard Fangmann officiating.  Committal and interment will be at the Herndon Cemetary, in Herndon,PA.
