Andrew P Gavason

Andrew P. Gavason, 90, of 405 Catawissa Ave. Sunbury, PA passed away at his home on December 18, 2016. Andrew was born in Sunbury on December 3, 1926 the son of the late Peter and Anna (Pintley) Gavason. He married Janet L. Gearheart who preceded him in death on November 3, 1995.
Andy attended Sunbury schools. He joined the US Army and served his country in France and Germany during World War II. He was employed as a machinist at Forge Flow, then retiring from Jules Schenk Machines in 2000. 
He was a huge fan of many sports. He coached and played for local softball leagues and was active in community organizations. He was a life member of the Northumberland VFW and the Sunbury American Legion Post #201, and a member of the Americus Hose Company, Northumberland No. 1 Hose Company, and was active with the Sunbury Senior Action Center helping with Meals on Wheels and serving as president. 
Andy is survived by his children: Jo M. (husband William) Picton of Sunbury, Anthony P. Gavason of Sunbury, and Chad P. (wife Renee) Gavason of Shamokin Dam, grandchildren Melanie Picton, Kristy, Olivia and Ryan Gavason, great grand son Quentin Schneider, sister Helen Wagonseller of San Diego, CA , and brother Harry Gavason of Northumberland, and many nephews and nieces.
Andy was preceded in death by his wife, parents, siblings: brothers Theodore, John, George Gavason and sister Mary Bidelspach and one niece.

Friends and family may visit at the David T. Zweier Funeral Home, Inc. 157 Chestnut St. Sunbury, PA. on Friday, December 23, 2106 from 9:00 am until 10:55 with a funeral service at 11 am with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Gunter officiating. Interment will follow at Northumberland Memorial Park Stonington, PA.
