John Naugle Obituary

Bloomsburg – John W. Naugle, 96,  went home to be with his Lord on February 25, 2020 at The Gardens at Orangeville.

John was born January 10, 1924 in Sunbury a son of the late John Albert Naugle and Minnie M. (Brown) Halbritler.

He graduated from Sunbury High School in 1942.  John then served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946, serving during WWII.

He lived in Sunbury all of his life until he moved in with his daughter in 2018.  He was a wonderful man and was loved by many people who touch his life.  He loved to sit on the front porch at his daughter’s home and watch the cars go by as he listened to Big Band Music.  He loved people unconditionally and gave to others freely.

John was a devoted member of the Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church in Sunbury most of his life. He was a member of the American Legion Post #201, VFW Post #1532, Friendship Hose Co., and Lodge #22  Free & Accepted Masons for over 50 years. John was a past member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board in Sunbury as well.

John was a good Christian man and attended church regularly.  As one church member said “John is the epitome of a true gentleman”.  John loved to fish, play golf, bowl, and play cards with his friends at the Senior Action Center.  He read his Bible daily until his health started to fail.  Most important of all to John besides God was his family.  He loved seeing his grandchildren and would become teary eyed when they would leave.  John had a big heart and loved everyone.  He will be missed.

John is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald R. and Janice Naugle of Chalfonte, and John W. II and Kathy M. Naugle of Sunbury, one daughter and son-in-law Mary Ellen and James E. Crawford of Bloomsburg, one stepdaughter Tara Ringer and her husband Jeffrey of Schnecksville, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by wives, Elizabeth (Bucher) McGlinn on Oct. 20, 2009, Alice (Coxe) Naugle on May 20, 1973 and Phyllis (Campbell) Naugle on Oct. 4, 2010, one daughter, Deborah Ann Smith on Nov. 15, 2001, one grandson, Michael E. Snyder and one great-grandson, Christian Snyder.
