Forrest Benner Obituary


Northumberland - Forrest W. "Skip" Benner, Jr. 78 of Ridge Road passed away Monday, March 2, 2020 at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.
Skip was born September 7, 1941 in Danville a son of the late Forrest W. Sr. and Ruth L. (Kreischer) Benner.  On February 17, 1979 he married the former Brenda L. Champion who survives.
Mr. Benner graduate form Sunbury High School in 1959 where he excelled in basketball. Skip went on to obtain a degree from Millersville State Teachers College and was a four year member of the schools basketball team.
He taught social studies and also English at the C.W. Rice Middle School, Northumberland, retiring after 31 years of teaching. 
He was of the Lutheran Faith.
Mr. Benner was a member of the Pennsylvania State Teacher's Union and a life member of the Americus Hose Co., Sunbury.
Next to his love of basketball, Skip was an outdoorsman who, at one time enjoyed hunting, but always had a love for fishing and was a member of the Union County Sportsmen's Club and the Fishing Creek and Scissor's Run Sportsmen's Associations.
In addition to his wife of 41 years, Skip is survived by one son, Matthew C. Benner of Idaho Falls, ID, one daughter, Christine R. Hansen, Columbia, GA, three grandchildren, Christian M. and Brianna Benner of ID and Abigail G. Hansen, a student at Florida State University, 16 nieces and nephews, 22 great-nieces and great-nephews, one great-great niece and one great-great nephew, five sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, Ruth Naugle, Linda and George Wallace and Sharyn Krumbine all of Northumberland, Andrea and Barry Shoemaker of Mifflinburg, Karyn Cooke of Danville and Jeffery Champion of Mount Pleasant Mills.
He was preceded in death by, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Marian Champion, brothers-in-law, Earl Naugle, Ted Krumbine and David Cooke and nephews, Brian Naugle and Rodney Shoemaker.
Friends and family may call from 10:00am to 11:00am Monday, March 9, 2020 at the Zweier Funeral Home, 157 Chestnut Street, Sunbury where funeral services will begin at 11:00am with Rev. Andrew Weaver officiating.
Burial will follow in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.
