Sunbury – Eric T. Long, 46, of 324 S. Front Street passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 26, 2020 at home.

Eric was born May 12, 1974 in Sunbury, a son of the late Shirley G. Long.  On September 30, 2000 he married Deni Jo Scholvin who survives him.

He attended Shikellamy High School.

Eric worked for the City of Sunbury as a Code Enforcement Officer since 2014. He was also employed by the Shikellamy School District as the girl’s head softball coach since 2017, the year he coached the team to a District Championship.

He was very involved in his community as a member of the Americus Hose Company and the Sunbury Fraternal Order of Eagles where he served as a trustee for many years.  He was also a City of Sunbury board member for the Parks & Recreation Department & Sunbury Celebration.

Eric carried on the family tradition of softball, organizing and hosting many tournaments, including the famous annual Ball-O-Ween Tournament at the John O. Long softball field, which the field is named after his grandfather.   He was a coach, a mentor and a father figure to so many softball players.  Coach Long’s favorite saying to his girl’s was “What time is it?”

When he wasn't at the softball fields, he enjoyed shooting pool with his wife, playing cornhole, and tinkering around in his man shed.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Bryce C. Long of Sunbury and daughters, Kierston Jo Long of Sunbury, and Bella Hile of Northumberland, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Jodi Scholvin of Sunbury and his brother-in-law, Scott D.
