Charles Weirick Obituary

Charles Robert "Bob" Weirick, 89, of Sunbury, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg after a lengthy illness.
She was born June 17, 1929, in Sunbury, a son of the late Ben L. and Mary O. (Pursel) Weirick.

Bob was the president of his Sunbury High School Class of 1947 and played center for the Owls basketball team. After graduation, Bob was invited to try out for the Sunbury Mercuries of the Eastern Professional Basketball League. While his health permitted, he enjoyed attending monthly lunch meetings of the Class of ’47.

He married his former spouse Rebecca Kemberling on September 19, 1948, and raised four sons while residing in Selinsgrove. Working for the Dutch Pantry restaurant company, he helped with the chain’s expansion in states along the eastern seaboard. He left the company after 20 years when it was sold to CPC International. Bob then went into real estate sales and eventually moved to the San Jose, Calif., area and continued in the real estate business there until he moved back to Sunbury in 2002. He served in the Army National Guard and had postings in Louisiana and Oklahoma.

Bob was an avid Penn State fan and spent many a football game during the earlier Paterno years standing outside the sidelines before the expansion of Beaver Stadium erased the standing opportunities. He never met a joke he didn’t like and usually was able to tell one at any occasion, whether the recipient wanted to hear it or not. His repertoire was good-naturedly endless.

Bob is survived by four sons, Robert J. Weirick (Kim) of Falls Church, Va.; Joel M. Weirick (Barbara Bowen) of Auburn, N.Y.; Rex M. (Ann Flack) Weirick of Subury; and Ben Weirick of Selinsgrove; grandchildren, Laura, Kelly, Paul, Nic and Ian Weirick, Jonathan Bowen, Tasha Auman and Tamara Ramer; and great-grandchildren, Avery and Jackson Weirick; one sister, Audrey Rowe of Selinsgrove; a sister-in-law, Doris Weirick of Selinsgrove; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his former wife, Rebecca; one daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Weirick; one sister, Mary Jane; and three brothers, William, Donald and George.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no calling hours or service.
