Sheila Hasty

December 17, 1965 ~ March 14, 2017 (age 51) 51 Years Old

 

Ms. Sheila Hasty, of,Selinsgrove, PA, was born on December 17, 1965, to the late Willie T. Hasty and the late Lena M. (Harrington) in New York City. She went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at the UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, surrounded by her family & friends. 

 

She attended school in New York City and graduated from the Boys and Girls High School, Brooklyn, NY. She accepted Christ in her life as child when she was a faithful member of the Evening Star Baptist Church, Brooklyn, NY, under the leadership of Rev. Washington L. Lundy. She served on the Sunbeam Choir, Youth Ensemble Choir, the usher board, and the hospitality club. She later moved to Pennsylvania to be near her sisters Denise and Christina. She became a member of the Higher Hope Church under the leadership of Pastor Mark Gittens.

 

Sheila was employed by St. Nicholas Home and Care and United States Postal Services for many years. She worked at Kmart for over 15 years in many positions, her latest being the human resource manager.

 

To know Sheila was to love her. Sheila was “Aumbie” to her family and “Coco” to her Kmart co-workers, and “Bear” to her Uncle Jay. She was a pleasant person and she loved her family very much. She always put everyone’s needs before her own. In her final days, she expressed to her family and friends to celebrate her life the way she would.

 

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law Robert and Jennifer Beamon of Lebanon, PA, and Javon and LaShawna Reid of Northumberland, PA; two granddaughters Aaliyah and Savannah; three sisters and two brothers-in-law Brenda and Tony Cox, Denise and Timothy Bittle, and Christina James all of Rockingham, NC.; five nieces Shamika, Coletha, her special niece Sheilena (who she delivered on her mother’s bed and named), Breanna, and Domanica; seven nephews Raishawn (who nicknamed her “Aumbie”), Maurice, Desmond, Leon, Erik, Marquis, and Timothy Jr.; eight great-nieces; nine great-nephews; eight aunts; four uncles; the father of her children George Beamon Jr.; a dear friend Andre Sloan; godsisters Renee, Donna, Valerie, Frances, Stephanie, Shamira, and Rev. Judy Freeman-Moss; godbrother Pastor Ruebin Thompson; two best friends Jackie Kennedy and Jeniva Singleton; and host of other family & friends. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents Lena Mae and Willie Ted, grandparents Elizabeth Hickman, Robert Lee Harrington, Blanche and Handy Hasty, three aunts, five uncles, her best friend Cortrina Dixon, and godparents Daisy and Sonny Spears.

 

Friends and relatives will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 19 at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 356 Vine Street, Sunbury, PA, followed by the funeral at 7 p.m., with Pastor Mark Gittens officiating. Sheila will be laid to rest in the Zion Iona United Methodist Church cemetery in Lebanon, PA, on Monday, March 20.
