Sunbury - Robert E. “Bob” Glessner, 76 passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born November 18, 1942 in Somerset a son of the late Eugene and Lucy (Zimmerman) Glessner. He was married on November 3, 1962 to the former Frances Kaminsky.
Bob was a 1960 graduate of Somerset High School. He then joined the Army on June 5, 1961 and was honorably discharged on June 4, 1964. He was married to Frances while serving in the military.
He worked at several different jobs including; as a clerk at Western Auto, gas station attendant, a paving company, security guard, Cardinal Box Plant, chauffer, was a police officer for the U.S. Capitol Police Force, firefighter with the Lois Volunteer Fire Department, police officer with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA). His last employment was as police commander for MWAA, retiring in 2003.
Bob liked hunting, fishing, collecting police badges from all the police departments with which he interacted. He also enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, doing word search and reading.
In addition to his wife of 53 years, Bob is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James R. Glessner and wife Chieko, two daughters and one son-in-law, Deborah A. Metzger and husband, Keith E., Susan Tikunoff, six grandchildren, Richard T. Kilburn, Joseph Kilburn, Christina M. Wert, JJ, Heather and Amy GLessner, one great-granddaughter, Julee and his dog, Charley.
There will be no viewing. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, March 11, 2019 at 10:00am at St. Monica Catholic Church 109 Market Street, Sunbury with Father Fred Wangwe, AJ, officiating.
Interment will follow in Pomfret Manor Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Bob’s name may be made to Mostly Mutts, no kill animal shelter, 284 Little Mountain Road, Sunbury, PA 17801.
