Richard Wetzel Obituary


  Richard Earl Wetzel, 87 of Sunbury, passed away in his home surrounded by his family.  He was born in Sunbury August 23, 1930, in his parents home, the son of the late Daniel W. Wetzel and Elizabeth K Simpson.  He was a graduate of Sunbury HS, worked for Bell Telephone for38 yrs., served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Richard was married to the late Mary Ann “Stevie” Snauffer on October 23, 1955. He was a member of the First Reformed Church United Church of Christ, Sunbury, where he served as teacher, deacon, & elder. He was a past Master of the local Masonic Lodge, member of the Friendship Hose Co., and was supervisor of the fire alarm box system in Sunbury for many years.
Dick was devoted to his family, his favorite pastime was sitting on his front porch swing sipping ice tea and watching the neighborhood.  He always talked to people passing by.  Friends and neighbors considered him the “Mayor” of Catawissa Ave.
He was preceded in death by his wife, sister Elizabeth Apple, brother Daniel and great grandson Felix Moore.
Surviving his children; daughter Stephanie & David Adams, son Richard & Cindy Wetzel, Jr., and Barbara &  Robert Lehman.  8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the First Reformed Church United Church of Christ, 160 Chestnut St., Sunbury, Pa. 17801, on Friday from 10 AM until 10:55 AM with service following at 11 AM. Rev. Jana Born Larsen officiating.  Interment following at the Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury, Pa.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the First Reformed Church United Church of Christ, Sunbury, Pa. for youth activities.
