John C Yost

John C. Yost, 93, of 495 Locust St. Northumberland, PA passed away at Sunbury Community Hospital on September 13, 2017. He was born in Shamokin on August 5, 1924 the son of the late Charles E. and Evelyn (Renn) Yost. He married Jean Bower on March 30, 1946 who passed in 2016.

John was the ninth of thirteen children, he graduated Coal Township HS in 1942. In 1943 he joined the US Army serving his country honorably during WWII as platoon sergeant for the 059 Combat Engineers. He saw action in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.

John was employed as a supervisor/sales for Buttercrust, he also worked for Weis Markets and L’Leon. He enjoyed bowling, watching sports, working puzzles, and reading history and the rail road. He was a member of Faith UM Church and taught Sunday School for decades.

John is survived by his son Ronald C. Yost of Northumberland, two granddaughters, Tessa and her husband Matthew Balliet, Nicole and her husband Shawn Colescott, six great grandchildren: Kyler, Carter, Caden, Kieran, Hayden and Hadley, sister Jane Bruce, and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son John F. Yost, daughter Judy L. Yost, six brothers, and five sisters.

Friends and family may visit the David T. Zweier Funeral Home, Inc. 157 Chestnut St. Sunbury, PA. on Sunday September 17, 2017 from 6 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday with the Rev. Ronald Troup officiating. Interment will be at the Odd-fellows Cemetery near Shamokin, PA.
