Harold Reed Obituary

Shamokin Dam - Harold Eugene “Gene” Reed, 84 of Stayman Apartments and formerly of East Chestnut Street, Sunbury passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019 at home.

Gene was born May 16, 1935 a son of the late Harold and Victoria (Mishon) Reed. On April 13, 1957 he married the former Mary Y. DeFacis who preceded him in death on February 24, 2010, breaking a marital union of 52 years.

Mr. Reed enlisted with the Marines on January 28, 1954 and was honorably discharged on April 26, 1956.

He was a truck driver for Professional Drivers, Milton, driving for various local businesses.

Gene was a life member of the Friendship Hose Company and the American Legion Post #201 both of Sunbury.

Mr. Reed was a collector of many things including; diecast cars and sports cards. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. He enjoyed camping at Pine Woods Camp Ground. He was a giver to others who would offer the shirt of his back to anyone. In their giving spirit, Gene and Mary opened their home to many children as foster parents. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family.

He is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Lindy L. and Kenneth W. Campbell, Jr., of Sunbury, Mary G. and Gary L. Willow Jr., of Northumberland, Bernadette M. and Timothy J. Kutz, of Sunbury, Tina M. and William L. Fennessy of Paxinos, two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony E. and Cathleen E. Reed of Catawissa, Jeffrey J. and Kathryn U. Reed of Sunbury, nine grandchildren, Nicole M. Rowe, Cristy L. Hartman, Kenneth W. Campbell III, Lauren M. Kutz, Dylan J. Kutz, Gabrielle A. Reed, Zach A. Diehl, Alexander P. Reed, Carter J. Reed, seven great-grandchildren, two sisters, Linda Baker of Sunbury, Theresa Dziczkowski of Mount Carmel, his special niece that he raised as his daughter, Bernadette Dailey and husband Daniel of Winston-Salem, NC and his longtime companion, Shirley L. Miller.

Friends and family are invited to a viewing on Sunday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Zweier Funeral Home 157 Chestnut Street, Sunbury.
