Welcome to the memorial page for

Madge L (Shuler) McKinney

December 10, 1919 ~ November 15, 2017 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Mrs. Madge L. McKinney, 97 years old, of Sunbury went to dance with the angels on Wednesday, November 15 at Sunbury Community Hospital.  Madge was born on December 10, 1919 in Sunbury where she spent her entire life. She was the daughter of the late Eugene and Mabel (Arbogast) Shuler.  She often mourned the loss of her mother when she was only three years old. She grew up during the Depression era when life was tough, but her spirit never wavered.

Madge cherished time with her family members who absolutely adored her. She and her son and daughter spent every Monday and Wednesday together having lunch and shopping.  She also became a fixture at the mall on Saturdays when she and her son would walk the mall and relax on the benches.  She was an avid reader and she loved flowers.

Madge spent most of her working career in retail.  She spent many years at Tops-All and Bowman’s in Sunbury and briefly at Plaza House before completing her working career at Bon Ton where she spent seventeen years and retired at the age of seventy-six.  Her work ethic was second to none, and she passed it on to her children.

She is survived by five children: Dan, Fae Brown, and Sam Stroh all of Sunbury, Larry of RD Selinsgrove, and Roxanne Bailey of Dallas, PA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Lori Paradis, Bonna Hawk, Mike McKinney, Kim Wood, Ken Bailey, Jr., Sam Stroh, Kerry Stroh, and Brent Stroh. There were also ten great grandchildren.

With the upcoming holidays, her loss will be more keenly felt as she attended all family gatherings and often entertained us with her wry sense of humor and frank remarks.  Her feisty nature and unconditional love of all of us will be etched in our memories forever.  We all love you so very much.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements are made by the David T. Zweier Funeral Home, Inc., 157 Chestnut St. Sunbury.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.  Condolences may be made at davidzweierfuneralhome.com.
