James Edward Doty

October 21, 1931 ~ January 20, 2018 (age 86) 86 Years Old


James Edward Doty, 86, of Northumberland,  went home to be with his Lord at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg on Jan. 20, 2018. He was born in Bloomsburg on October 21, 1931 the son of the late George and Kate Doty. 
He married Beverly L. Naugle, his perfect soul mate, on Jan. 8, 1954 who preceded him Feb. 18, 2016.
He graduated Bloomsburg H. S. in 1949 and later Bloomsburg State College eventually earning a masters degree. 
He served in the US Army from 1953-55 stationed in El Paso, TX. He was a radio DJ in Bloomsburg and WKOK. 
He was a science teacher and principal in the Shikellamy School District; coaching tennis and basketball until a stroke in 1993 ended his career but not his life and faith. He was active in his church, serving as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Sunbury and Amazing Grace Community Church in Northumberland.  He served with the Gideons. He loved singing, and he played UNO weekly with his teacher friends. He watched and rooted for his family’s favorite sports teams. 
 
At Riverwoods he was the Hot Dog King, and he made everyone laugh around him with a hearty, “Oh boy! Gee Whiz!”
He is survived by son Daniel P. Doty of DE, grandson Andrew M. and his wife Brittany Wagner of Warrenton, VA, granddaughter Amanda B. (Wagner) and her husband Kyle Bryan of Lewisburg, granddaughter Kelsey Doty of DE, great grandson Evan M. Bryan, and several nieces and nephews. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Laurie D Wagner (2005), and siblings Sally Nietz and George Doty. 
Friends and family may visit the Amazing Grace Community Church 138 Leed St. Northumberland, PA on Thursday  January 25, 2018 from 10 - 11 am with a funeral service at 11 am with his pastor Darrin Hunt officiating. Interment will follow at Shreiner’s Church Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.
