Clara A (Betz) Benfer

July 14, 1923 ~ October 10, 2017 (age 94) 94 Years Old

 

Clara A. Benfer, 94, formerly of the Danville RD#1 area, passed away Sunday October 8, 2017 at the Nazareth Memory Center, Danville. She was born July 14, 1923 in Danville, the daughter of the late Allen and Mildred (Temple) Betz.  She married Robert L. Benfer, Sr., June 26, 1941, celebrating forty-nine years of marriage at the time of his death, December 16, 1990.

Clara was a farmer’s wife most of her life, she worked at Merck, Milton Shoe Factory, Zenith and the flower greenhouses at Washingtonville.

She was a member of Mooresburg Presbyterian Church, Liberty Township Fire Co., Washingtonville Fire Co., and Susquehanna Valley Corral and helped with the food pantry in her church for surrounding areas.

She was an avid NY Mets fan, she loved flowering beds and gardening, country music, bus trips to various shows, was great friends with Country Musicians Doc and Chicky Williams. She enjoyed puzzles, find a word books, playing cards and picnics.  But most the love of her life were her grandchildren and great grand children.

Clara is survived by a daughter, Shirley (Spike) Stamm of Sunbury with whom she lived, also four sisters: Gladys (Dio) Yost, Meadville; Hannah (Earl) Jarrett, Turbotville; Jean (Richard Mull) Long, Northumberland and Janet McCarty, Muncy.  Grandchildren: Shane (Diana) Penny, Nescopeck; Jason (Kara) Penny, Danville; Bonnie (Jeff) Weiser, Selinsgrove; Great grandchildren: Trent and Makayla Penny, and Jeffrey, Amanda and Allyssa Weiser, Selinsgrove.

Clara was preceded in death by one son, Robert L. Benfer, Jr.; three brothers: Clarance (Martha), Layton and William (June) Betz; two sisters Olivia (Harold) Minncemoyer, and Dorothy (Curt) Stover.

Clara’s longtime best of friend, wonderful relationship and companion, Bobby George who passed April 4, 2017.

Clara’s request is not to have a viewing or services. She will rest in peace by her husband in Moorseburg Presbyterian Cemetery at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements by David T.
